CHARLOTTE, N.C. - A powerful storm in the Northeast spurred more than 350 flight cancellations Wednesday and more Thursday morning.
Eyewitness News found some of those cancellations were affecting Charlotte-Douglas International Airport.
Two flights heading out of Charlotte were canceled Thursday morning, one to New York.
Four flights coming into Charlotte from Newark, N.J. and New York were canceled Thursday morning also.
US Airways told Channel 9 more than 30 flights in all have been canceled Thursday while they keep and eye on the storm.
Brooklyn native Domencio Parrilla told Eyewitness News he had a turbulent week. First, Hurricane Sandy battered his hometown with damaging wind and devastating flooding.
Then, in the midst of the recovery, he had to leave his family for work.
"When I left my family, we had no electricity from the hurricane,” Parrilla said.
A giant nor'easter canceled his flight Wednesday out of Charlotte, keeping him from getting back to his family.
"To find out all flights have been canceled with the possibility of all the lights going out again, it's disheartening,” he said.
Eyewitness News noticed about two dozen cancellations Wednesday night. All of them were to and from places like New York and New Jersey.
US Airways workers cancelled more than 200 flights due to the storm.
Flightstates.com reported more than a thousand other flight cancellations from carriers like United Airlines and American.
Other travelers only faced delays, but even those came at a cost.
"Being pregnant, I like to get home early and go to bed early. I'm now getting in at midnight and so it's going to be tiring. I got to go to work tomorrow morning,” said traveler Stephanie Kyriazis.
US Airways said more than a dozen cities were affected by the cancellations.
Airport officials encouraged people to check the status of flights before arriving at the airport.
