Novant implements procedure aimed at helping women suffering from fibroids

CHARLOTTE — Women between the ages of 25 to 50 are at risk for developing fibroids, or benign tumors, on their uterus.

In fact, nearly 80% of African-American women will develop fibroids by the time they reach 50.

And so many of those women say they suffer in silence.

“I was just kind of fed up. I was at my wit’s end. I was like this can’t be real life, I couldn’t go places. So this past year in December, I said, ‘Hey let me go see someone else, get a second opinion,’” Loreal Simpson said.

July is Fibroid Awareness Month.
