NTSB: Pilot killed in Newton plane crash was teaching himself stunts

NEWTON, N.C. — A pilot killed in a plane crash in Newton last month was teaching himself stunts when the crash happened, according to a preliminary report from federal investigators.

They interviewed a flight instructor who had once given the pilot a lesson in turns, spins, and other stunts.

He said the pilot's knowledge and skills were not adequate so he ended training early.

Witnesses also told investigators they saw the plane do a few tricks before crashing into a wheat field in May.
