CHARLOTTE, N.C. - The National Weather Service issued a severe thunderstorm warning for two western counties in North Carolina Tuesday afternoon.
Burke and Caldwell counties are under the warning until 5:45 p.m.
Initially, the warning included Avery County, but the NWS canceled the warning there shortly after 5 p.m.
According to the NWS, a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-sized hail and damaging winds in excess of 60 mph was picked up on the agency’s Doppler radar.
The storm is located 13 miles northwest of Morganton and moving northeast at 30 mpg, the NWS said.
