GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Gastonia police are investigating an overnight crash that left a 72-year-old Bessemer City man dead.
Officers told Channel 9 that William Ledwell was killed in a wreck involving a tractor trailer around 3 a.m. on Bessemer City Road at Oates Road.
Officers said Ledwell was driving a Toyota Rav 4 when he collided with the tractor trailer that was trying to turn left from Dallas Bessemer City Highway onto Bessemer City Rd.
Officials said Ledwell died at the scene.
Investigators said it appeared Ledwell may have been speeding and that contributed to the crash.
Police are asking for anyone that may have witnessed the crash or seen Ledwell prior to the collision to call 704-866-6702.
