Police: Woman dead in north Charlotte crash

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police have arrested a man after the passenger in his car was killed in an accident in north Charlotte Monday morning.

Investigators said 27-year-old Quanisha Cherry died when the Lincoln Town Car she was a passenger in suddenly stopped across the southbound lanes of North Graham Street near West Craighead Avenue and was struck by a Mack truck being driven by 38-year-old Jeremy Coleman around 7 a.m.

The Lincoln's driver, 29-year-old Adoma Connor, has been charged with misdemeanor death by motor vehicle.

Connor was taken to the hospital but has since been treated and released.

He told officers that the car "shuttered" while he was driving on N. Graham and when he applied the brakes the car suddenly swerved to the left and stopped across both southbound lanes, in front of the Mack truck

Police had all lanes of Craighead and Graham closed for nearly three hours while they investigated the crash.

Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the accident, according to police.
