Officials: 1 dead in overnight Stanly County house fire

STANLY COUNTY, N.C. — One person has died in a house fire Friday morning in Stanly County.

Firefighters got the first call just after midnight from a neighbor on Old Aquadale Road.

They said the house is heavily damaged and police had the road blocked off for the investigation.  It was reopened around 6:15 a.m.

Smoke could still be seen coming from the house hours later.

Firefighters said there is a small fire burning under the floor. They are waiting for equipment to come in so they can put that fire out.

Officials said they found several space heaters inside the home, but don't know if those caused the fire.

Fire investigators in Norwood told Channel 9 they don't yet have an exact cause of the fire.

The victim has not yet been identified.
