CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Travelers should prepare for large crowds at the airport on Friday, officials said.
The Democratic National Convention ends Thursday night, and airport officials said they expect the terminal lobby to be at capacity throughout the day Friday.
Security checkpoints at Charlotte Douglas will open at 3:30 a.m., an hour earlier than normal.
US Airways is advising customers to get to the airport three hours before any domestic flight and four hours before any international flight.
Additional airport, airline and TSA staff will be in the lobby to assist passengers.
Alternate traffic routes will be implemented early Friday morning. Drivers should read and follow temporary electronic directional roadway signs when they are activated, officials said.
Hourly parking will be free during the alternate traffic route periods. Officials said drivers in personal vehicles are encouraged to use hourly parking for drop-off and pick-up.
Normal traffic routes will return on Saturday.
