Sheriff's Office identifies Lake Norman drowning victim

DENVER, N.C. — The body of a man was found in Lake Norman off Dick Wilson Road around 12:55 p.m. Thursday, according to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

The body of Richard Terry Locklin, 53, was found about 45 feet from shore in about six feet of water in the Lake Norman cove off Dick Wilson Road. Neighbors searching the area found the body.

“The body of the man was located off shore from a vacant lot which is used by some people to land their boat,” said Sheriff David Carpenter.

The man was reportedly last seen Wednesday night at a nearby residence in the 4000 block of Dick Wilson Road.

Wednesday night he went jet skiing with some friends on the lake, according to his family.

When the night ended, the friends took their jet skis and went home.

Locklin stayed in the lot just off the shore.

The body will be sent to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy to determine the exact cause of death.

On July 29, a Lincolnton woman drowned while swimming with a friend off a dock on Mitchell Lane in Denver. The body of 36-year-old Elisabeth Anna Burford was found several feet away from where she was last seen.
