CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Officials said a driver died after a vehicle hit a building in the 11800 block of North Tryon Street.
Chris Koch, 47, drove a 2009 Hyundai Genesis off the right side of the road and struck a building at 11844 N. Tryon St., according to police.
Investigators said no other cars were involved and Koch was the only person in the vehicle.
The impact caused the building's roof to buckle.
Police, fire and emergency medical services responded.
"All I could see was a cloud of smoke, and after the cloud of smoke I could see the car looked like a brand new black car. It was on the inside of the building," said witness Darnell Johnson.
Investigators said they're looking into whether a medical condition caused the driver to crash into the building.
