Officials: Salisbury High School principals suspended

SALISBURY, N.C. — Rowan-Salisbury Schools have confirmed that the top leaders at Salisbury High School have been suspended. However, leaders wouldn't explain why.

About two weeks ago, violence erupted at a basketball game between Salisbury High School and North Rowan High School.

A video recorded at the game shows players and fans brawling on the court.

"It was just getting out of hand and people just didn't know how to control themselves," said Feylan Wesley.

The North Carolina High School Athletic Association ruled against both teams leading to a loss of 2016 playoff privileges, a fine and some students were suspended from some gameplay next year.

Friday the school district confirmed SHS assistant principal Michelle Taylor was suspended without pay two days last week.

Head principal Luke Brown was suspended with pay Wednesday, Thursday and Friday of this week.

District leaders wouldn't explain why, or say if the suspensions have anything to do with the brawl at the basketball game.

"I would like to know what was the cause why two principals were suspended," said parent Eva Gatewood.
