Woman charged in connection with Salisbury arcade homicide

SALISBURY, N.C. — An employee died after a shooting at a Salisbury arcade Saturday morning.

James Davis, 45, of Albemarle, was shot at the Fishzilla Arcade on East Innes Street early Saturday morning.

Davis died at the hospital.

Police charged Dedric Michelle Mason, 42, with second-degree murder in the killing of Davis. She is under a $50,000 secured bond.

Thomas Glenn, Davis’ cousin, said Davis had worked at the arcade for about three months.

Davis’s death is the second homicide in Salisbury in three days.

“Just justice. We want justice,” Glenn said.  “They want to say it's gang-related and things here. I don’t think this is gang related. Some people just aren’t caring.”

Investigators are still working on the case of 75-year-old Eugene Chunn, who was allegedly killed in his home on Thursday.

“The first one was, 'Wow. Is this a prank?'” Glenn said. “Just different emotions, about seven, eight emotions. All the emotions you can get at once.”

“I immediately said, ‘Oh no,’” said Janis Alexander, a local business owner. “I just never thought that would have happened there. I thought it was under control.”

A note on the arcade’s front door says it is closed until Monday.

Arcades in North Carolina can have games of skill in which people play to win cash prizes.

“I hope it’s not a string of things that’s going to occur again,” said Robin Walker, who works nearby. “You never know when violence is going to occur. It can happen within the blink of an eye.”
