Mayor Jennifer Roberts has been aggressively pushing for family paid leave.
If the budget is approved, city employees, including the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and Charlotte Fire Department, would receive six weeks of paid time off for a newborn child or adoption.
City staffers estimate the benefit will cost an additional $65,000.
