Panther Greg Hardy accused of assault, turns in weapons cache

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Carolina Panthers player Greg Hardy turned over a cache of weapons to sheriff's deputies Friday.

It's part of a judge's order following his arrest this week on domestic violence charges.
 
They're a mix of military style assault-style weapons and shotguns.
                                                              
In all, 10 guns in varying styles were turned in.
                               
Gun experts said they're all legal and while they look like automatic weapons, they're actually consumer versions of military weapons that are semi-automatic and very popular with shooters.
                               
This week a judge ordered Hardy to turn in his weapons after his girlfriend claimed he beat her up in his apartment.
 
Hardy faces misdemeanor assault and communicating threats charges.                                 
               
He declined to talk to reporters after bonding out of jail three days ago, but his attorney said it was Hardy's girlfriend, Nicki Holder, who was the aggressor.
                               
 A restraining order on Hardy was dismissed Thursday after Holder failed to show up in court.
