Passenger duct taped after attacking flight attendants to be deported

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A federal judge ruled a woman will be deported for her actions on an American Airlines flight to Charlotte Douglas Airport.

In January, a flight from Dallas was about to land in Charlotte when officials said Charlene Harriott jumped out of her seat and ran toward the cockpit.

When three flight attendants worked to restrain her, Harriott bit, hit and kicked them.

They were eventually able to use duct tape and zip ties to restrain her.

In court Friday, Harriott was silent during her sentencing.

The defense attorney said she had some sort of emotional breakdown that led to the outburst.

The judge called what happened a violent event, which likely frightened passengers on board and the American Airlines crew.

The judge ruled that she now be turned over to immigration to be deported back to Jamaica to be with friends and family.

If she ever returns to the U.S., she would be under supervised probation for one year.

Two victims have filed for restitution. The judge will decide on that in 90 days.
