Elderly woman and her dog killed by vehicle in northwest Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, NC — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police say an elderly woman and her dog were hit and killed by a car in northwest Charlotte Saturday morning.

It happened at Moores Chapel Road and Tilden Road just before 10 a.m.

Investigators said 84-year-old Franziska Mair Bruckner tried to cross Moores Chapel Road and stepped off the curb into the path of a Hyundai Sonata.

The driver stopped and tried to help Bruckner, but she was declared dead at the scene.

Police said it happened in an area where there was no pedestrian crosswalk and the driver who hit Bruckner was not speeding or impaired.
