CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are investigating after a driver hit and killed a person early Saturday evening in south Charlotte.
A 21-year-old man was driving a 1999 Volvo S70 sedan just before midnight on Providence Road when a person stepped off the curb in front of the car, police said.
The victim has been identified as David Flowers.
The driver tried to stop, but he didn't have enough time to avoid hitting Flowers.
Police said they don't believe alcohol is a factor for the Volvo driver, but suspect that the pedestrian was impaired.
Officials also said that Flowers was not in a crosswalk.
