CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police released the name of a bicyclist who was struck and killed by a vehicle Monday night in the 4800 block of Monroe Road in southeast Charlotte, officials said.
Pedro Tovar III was riding his bicycle between Wendover and North Sharon Amity roads when he was hit by a Mercedes driven by Henry Satterwhite, according to investigators. Police said Tovar was thrown from his bike and died at the scene.
Officers said Satterwhite immediately stopped his car and tried to help Tovar.
Tovar was not wearing a helmet, was wearing dark clothing and did not have any reflectors or lights on his bicycle, police said.
The crash is still under investigation. If anyone witnessed the crash they're asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
