Neighbors frustrated after furniture, headless Santa dumped outside house

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Residents in south Charlotte said they were in disbelief after their neighbor skipped town, leaving furniture, electronics, appliances, artwork and more outside.

There was even a jug of tea outside the home on Sky Drive, as well as a headless Santa. All of the abandoned items were left in the driveway for about two days.

"All stuff that was in good shape, but now it’s all ruined because it was sitting in the rain," neighbor Courtney Hagen said.

Hagen, who lives across the street, said she doubts that her neighbor will be back to pick up the items.

"It's just left for us, the neighbors, to deal with. It’s a huge inconvenience, and it’s an eyesore," she said.

Another neighbor told Channel 9 that she reported the mess to the city of Charlotte Monday morning.

City officials confirmed that they received a complaint, and Channel 9 saw a code enforcement officer at the house a few hours later.

Officials said Solid Waste Services personnel will likely be back at the house Tuesday.

City officials said a free service is offered to homeowners who are in the process of moving. They said homeowners can schedule an appointment with Solid Waste Services to pick up bulk items so the burden isn't left on the neighbors.

Channel 9 wasn't able to reach the homeowner, and a lock was on the door Monday.

The project manager for OfferPad, a company that buys and sells homes, said it is in the process of closing on the home. He said he was surprised to see all the junk, and that the company will make the homeowner pay for it to be removed.

The property left in the front yard of the home on Sky Drive.

He said a contractor will likely remove the items by Monday afternoon.
