People living near I-85 wait for more info on road-widening plans

CABARRUS COUNTY, N.C. — You may see a smoother drive, but some families and businesses may have to move.

NCDOT plans to widen Interstate 85 between 73 and the 29-601 connector and redo interchanges 29-601, Dale Earnhardt Boulevard, Lane Street and NC 152.

Eyewitness News reached out to the DOT to find out which homes and businesses could be affected.

In the meantime, people who live closest to I-85 can only wait and hope.

“Everyone we talk to is like, 'We have no idea. We have no idea,’” Luann Townsend said.

Ali Pernell showed Eyewitness News his back yard and how close he is to I-85.  He said the last rumor going around was that his home could be in danger. Either way, he'd like to know soon.

"As soon as possible. Definitely. The more time I can find out about it, the more time a lot of folks can react,” Pernell said.

You can find out more Tuesday. The DOT is holding an open house at Kannapolis Train Station starting at 4 p.m.
