Petition opposes controlled burn in Linville Gorge

LINVILLE, N.C. — People are now signing a petition to stop the U.S. Forestry Service from burning thousands of acres of the Linville Gorge.

The agency wants to burn more than 16,000 acres to get rid of native vegetation.

The Forestry Service also said a controlled burn will prevent wildfires.

But neighbors are worried the controlled burn will spread too far and threaten their homes.
