Officials, fans monitor weather for Wells Fargo Championship

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — PGA officials are keeping a close eye on the weather as thousands of fans are spread out across the Quail Hollow club's 257 acres in many exposed areas.
 
Wade Stettner is focused on the radar and answering questions from tour officials about Wednesdasy's Pro-Am.
 
"We might be able to get some golf in," he said.
 
As the official PGA meteorologist his job is to warn of approaching storms using radar and a device that can sense lightning by the electricity building in the air.
 
"All of a sudden you see it build up in the area, you know its building and that potential is there," Stettner said.
 
"If it is severe, we will evacuate the course. If it's just a general thunderstorm with lightning in the area seek safe shelter in a structure," he said.
 
Fans play a part in their own safety by being informed.
 
Eric Miller uses the Channel 9 weather app to track approaching storms.
 
"If it's getting close were going to head for the door, going to go home," he said.
 
Wells Fargo officials are confident that fans will have plenty of time to seek shelter or evacuate if they have to.
 
The Pro-Am's tee times start at 7 a.m. and noon Wednesday.
