CHARLOTTE - Piedmont Natural Gas wants to remind residents to call before they dig.
As part of National Safe Digging Month, Piedmont held a tree tagging event Saturday. It is meant to remind people to call 811 before doing any home improvement projects that involve digging.
Officials said they want to raise awareness so no one accidentally hits an underground gas line.
“There’s a huge safety aspect to it. About 85 percent of all underground damages to utilities come from homeowners digging into those utilities,” said Timothy Greenhouse, with Piedmont Natural Gas.
