Pile of debris outside home disturbs neighbors

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Resident Ron Byran is concerned about a pile of debris outside of his neighbor's home in southeast Charlotte.

“The smell that's in there is just horrendous, and now that it's been raining and all, it's just gotten worse,” Byran said.

A woman had been living there after her grandparents died, but Byran said she suddenly moved out more than a month ago, leaving the debris behind.

The woman, who did not want to be identified, said she moved out in December after losing the house to foreclosure.

“That used to be my stuff,” the woman said. “The stuff that I needed and my children needed, I already have.”

She had nowhere to put her things, so she said just left them.

“The things that were important to us, memories, things that could not be replaced, I kept,” she said.

She said she doesn't know who owns the house now.

Byram and his neighbors haven't been able to find anyone with the county who can give them any answers.

A dumpster was placed near the pile of junk Monday afternoon as crews prepared to clean it up.
