MOORESVILLE, N.C. — The Mooresville Police Department is searching for the driver of a truck they say struck two teenagers Monday on Shearers Road near Clodfelter Road just after 9 p.m.
"We could have been dead, it could have been way worse than it was,” said Cristian Chicas.
The 18-year-old victim was grateful to have walked away with just a few bumps and bruises.
His 15-year-old friend was still in the hospital Wednesday with broken ribs, bruised lungs, a broken knee and other injuries.
Officers said Chicas was on a bike and the 15-year-old on a skateboard behind him. The crash report said they were traveling in the southbound lane of Shearers Road when a white truck crossed the center line and struck them both.
However, Chicas said he remembers the car approaching from behind. He said it came at them suddenly, drove toward them, and hit them before they could get out of the way.
He said his friend went flying through the air and landed several feet away in the road.
"I went to move my friend out of the road and the guy was gone,” Chicas said. “He did stop but he didn't get out the car.”
Officers said they don’t know what may have led to the crash, but Wednesday they asked anyone with information on the vehicle to come forward.
They’re searching for a white, single cab, two-door truck with aftermarket window tint and a possible lift kit. Also, there is possible damage to the left headlight.
Call the Mooresville Police Department at 704-664-3311 or the Mooresville South Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-658-9056 with any information.
