Police: 3 arrested in east Charlotte murder

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte Mecklenburg police have arrested three people in connection with a murder in east Mecklenburg County earlier this week.

Early Wednesday morning, officers with CMPD's Violent Criminal Apprehension Team arrested Jose Sosa, 20, Edwin Medel, 21 and Lindy Hoeun, 22. Police have charged them for the murder of Tony Van Tran.

The crime happened Monday night at the 10600 block of Northgate Trail Drive in the eastern part of the county.

Officers arrived at the crime scene at about 6:30 p.m. and saw shell cases but couldn't find a victim.

A short time later, Carolinas Medical Center University told police a gunshot victim arrived at the hospital, where they died. That person was later identified as Van Tran.

Police said the three men and Van Tran knew each other and were conducting a drug deal when the shooting happened.

A second victim was also physically assaulted and suffered a non-life threatening injury.  He was treated and released on the scene.

CMPD provided Sosa's mugshot but Meddel and Hoeun have not yet been processed.

Anyone with more information about this incident is asked to call 704-432-TIPS or Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
