Police: 4 children jump out of trunk after traffic stop during SC Christmas parade

LANCASTER, S.C. — A Lancaster man is in jail accused of child endangerment after police said he was driving with four children in the trunk of his car.

Officers pulled William Benton over this weekend during the Lancaster Christmas parade after his car tag came back as stolen.

Benton told police he borrowed his grandfather's car to take his kids to the parade.

As police arrested Benton, they said his trunk opened and four children jumped out.

Police said the youngest was 11 years old.

Investigators have not said why the children were in the trunk.
