CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Neighbors along Toddville Road were startled by the sound of gunfire Sunday afternoon as an 8-year-old boy was shot by someone in a passing car.
“He was bleeding from the leg and I just wrapped it up,” said Omar Smith, who heard the shots and then saw the boy down in the grass.
Smith ran to help and used another boy’s shirt to stop the bleeding.
“I just kept talking to him had him telling me his name, the school he went to, his grades and everything until his mom and dad came over,” Smith said.
By the time police cordoned off the crime scene, the boy was on the way to the hospital.
Witnesses said they saw a four-door white sedan drive by and someone inside the car fired the shots, but police said Monday they still did not have any more information than that.
