CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police arrested a 15-year-old male in connection with an armed robbery Wednesday in Charlotte.

Officials with the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department said they responded to a 911 call for a robbery shortly after 8 a.m. near East Mecklenburg High School.

Police said the robbery victim told them that two suspects approached him, struck him over the head with a handgun, took his money and ran off.

Authorities said the school resource officer at East Mecklenburg High School put the school on lockdown while officers searched for the suspects.

Police said a K-9 unit was called in and the suspects were found minutes later, walking in the 6900 block of Wallace Road.

Police said the suspects were taken into custody and the handgun was found shortly after with the help of the K-9 unit.

Both suspects were interviewed by detectives and one of them was released after it was determined that he was not involved in the robbery, authorities said.

Officials said a secure custody order was obtained on the 15-year-old suspect and he was charged with robbery with a dangerous weapon, possession of firearm by minor, possession of firearm with defaced serial numbers and possession of marijuana.
