Police arrest 2 in Hickory in connection with armed robberies

HICKORY, N.C. — Agents found two men accused of 10 armed robberies in three states at a motel in Hickory. The men are wanted for a string of robberies over the last three weeks.

Police hit the motel Friday morning while the men were sleeping.

One of the suspects told Eyewitness News he didn’t have anything to do with the 10 robberies.

The man was wearing clothing he had on when he went to sleep at the Motel 6. Police said he robbed several businesses across Western North Carolina, Tennessee and South Carolina.

Friday night, the police have arrest warrants for armed robbery in Asheville, where a surveillance camera at a First Citizens Bank captured the robber’s image Tuesday.

Investigators said they believe he also robbed a convenience store earlier in the month and BoJangles restaurant Thursday.

Police said a second man also arrested at the motel was the driver in the cases.

The suspect was transported back to Asheville where police have warrants waiting.
