Police blame speed in crash that killed motorcyclist in south Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating a crash that killed a motorcyclist Monday night in south Charlotte.

Around 8:45 p.m., 33-year-old Sean Garrett was riding his Suzuki GSF 1200 at a high rate of speed in the eastbound lane of Sharon Road West, approaching the intersection of Brandon Forest Drive, according to investigators.

A Chevrolet Traverse, driven by Gordon Keiser, was turning left off of Sharon Road West onto Brandon Forest Drive and had just about completed the turn when the front of the motorcycle struck the right rear quarter panel of the Traverse.

The force of the impact spun the SUV 180 degrees.

Officers said Garrett was transported to Carolinas Medical Center but was pronounced dead later that night.

Keiser was not hurt.

Officers told Channel 9 that speed was a contributing factor in the crash and that alcohol was not involved.

Anyone who witnessed the crash or has information about it is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 704-334-1600.
