Police charge man with raping 2 women on church grounds

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is facing charges after police said he raped two women at a south Charlotte church.

Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department detectives said shortly after 11 p.m. on May 15 officers were called to the 2000 block of Emerywood Drive.

They found a 25-year-old woman outside of the church claiming she had been raped.

The victim told police she arranged to meet 29-year-old Andre Jones in the parking lot of the church.

She said Jones raped her on church grounds and then fled the scene.

Police said Jones struck again exactly one week later.

They said shortly after 5 a.m. on May 22, a second victim arranged to meet Jones at the same location.

They said the suspect pulled out a knife, raped the woman and then got away.

Jones was caught the next day.

One woman was shocked to hear the alleged crime happened so close to her home

"Sometimes I'm up as late as 11 or midnight and I'm over there.  It's scary," she said.

Jones is facing two counts of rape and carrying a concealed weapon.
