IREDELL COUNTY, N.C. — Deputies arrested a 17-year-old West Iredell High School student who they said may have been planning to commit a violent act.
On Thursday, school officials received information about Nicholas Anderson making comments earlier in the day about committing a violent act.
An investigation was then started by the school resource officer and school staff and statements were gathered from witnesses as well as Anderson.
When authorities searched Anderson’s car, which was parked on campus, they found a hunting knife with a 5-inch blade.
“This is exactly the type of case which makes our school resource officers so important,” said Iredell County Sheriff Darren Campbell. “I also want to say thank you to the brave students who stepped up and made the school aware of this threat being made.”
Anderson was arrested and charged with one count of felony making a false report concerning mass violence on educational property and one count of misdemeanor possessing a weapon on education property.
