Police: Man tried to rob bank by saying kids kidnapped

GASTON COUNTY, N.C. — Officials said a man tried to rob a bank on South New Hope Road in Gastonia.

Around 11:13 a.m. Tuesday, a man entered the Bank of America and presented a note to the teller. Officials said the note requested money from the bank for his kids who were kidnapped.

Police said no money was taken from the bank, no one was injured and the man fled the scene.

Police said Jorge Manuel Ortiz Zarco, 20, was arrested in Lowell. Police said he admitted there was no kidnapping. Zarco was charged with robbery.
