Police ID man, woman in connection with Rock Hill deadly hit-and-run

ROCK HILL, S.C. — Rock Hill police still don't know who owned the car that hit and killed Josh Moore on Saturday because it had a paper tag and was not properly registered, but forensic evidence from that car led police to a possible suspect.

Moore, 21, was riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle on Heckle Boulevard when out of nowhere, a car ran the stop sign at Russell Street and struck and killed him.

The driver drove on, hit several trees on an embankment and then ran shoeless from the wrecked Chrysler 200.

Police said moments later he ran toward a woman who was outside a white Jeep. He screamed, They're going hurt me!" They're going hurt me!"

He then jumped into the Jeep and drove off, police said.

The Jeep was discovered outside a Charlotte motel a day later.

Nearly a week later, Rock Hill police identified the man they said was driving that car as Gilverto Corniel, 24, of Charlotte.

There are warrants out for his arrest for leaving the scene of an accident causing death.

Police are also looking for Tory Kistler, 24, of Mooresville, who they plan to charge with obstruction of justice.

Police said Kisler was in the car arguing with Corniel just before the crash. He left her on the roadside and took off before the crash that killed Moore.

Rock Hill police charged Kistler on June 30 with possession of meth, as well as with spitting and kicking at officers when they tried to arrest her outside a motel.

Her Facebook page shows she was at the Carolina Panthers game Sunday, the day after the deadly crash.

Rock Hill police Capt. Brent Allmon said that detectives spoke to her Sunday when they found the carjacked Jeep outside a motel.
They didn't have cause to arrest her at that time.

Allmon said police want to find both suspects and believe they are somewhere in Charlotte.

"We have several different addresses and we feel like they could be staying at different motels," Allmon said.

Moore was killed in front of his parents, who were on another motorcycle when the hit-and-run happened.

Channel 9 spoke by phone to family members and friends of Moore on Friday. They were grateful for the work police are doing but did not wish to comment.

Police are also in contact with the families of both suspects, hoping they can convince Corniel and Kistler to turn themselves in.
