CHARLOTTE, N.C. - Charlotte police are investigating reports of a noose at a south Charlotte high school. Charlotte Mecklenburg School officials said two students at South Mecklenburg High School have been disciplined.
Students and parents that Eyewitness News questioned had not heard about what police are now
said someone physically threatened to do bodily harm to them at school, according to police. According to the police report, a noose was also found. One of the victims is a 16-year-old black female, the other is a white male.
"That's appalling, and awfully sad," said Suzanne Storm, a parent.
"South Meck is so different, diverse, so you wouldn't think to see
that," said Charity, a student.
CMS tells Eyewitness News that the incident happened in the parking lot at dismissal last Monday and that it has already been handled as a bullying, harassment case.
The district says the student who was accused and another student with him have both been disciplined, but would not tell us how.
One parent Eyewitness News spoke with says she hopes this is a reminder to students and parents about the importance of respect.
"If we could have a generation grow up without that kind of hatred -- maybe it's too much to hope for. I hope not," said Storm.
The South Mecklenburg High School Principal Dr. Maureen Furr released a statement saying, "The safety and education of students at South Mecklenburg High is my top priority. I take this situation very seriously and took immediate action to discipline all students who behaved inappropriately. At South Mecklenburg High, we encourage a culture of respect and are committed to keeping a positive and safe environment for all students."
Eyewitness News reached out to Charlotte police for more information and were told that no more information and no comment would be released because the case is under active investigation.
