Nobody hurt after gunfire reported outside SouthPark Mall

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are investigating reports of gunshots about 4 p.m. Wednesday outside the SouthPark Mall.

The bullets caused about $100 worth of damage to the mall's exterior, but no one was hurt.

Police said there are no suspects and they do not know a motive for the shooting.

"It just makes me crazy, because we don't expect that in an area like this," resident Anita Wilson said.

The shooter opened fire from a car, targeting a few people standing outside the entrance to the Neiman Marcus store, according to witnesses.

The shooter fled and the people who were shot at did not call police, according to Charlotte-Mecklenburg police.

Police added extra security at the mall on Thursday.

There have been 30 incidents reported to police in the last month in connection with the mall, the vast majority of them thefts.
