Shooting victim trying to drive from scene causes chain-reaction crash into home

CHARLOTTE — A shooting victim tried to drive himself to a hospital Friday afternoon but slammed into a parked van in a driveway, which propelled the vehicles into a west Charlotte home, police said.

A dispute between two parties led to the shooting, Charlotte-Mecklenburg police said.

The shooting victim got into his SUV and left the scene at about 4 p.m. on Mulberry Pond Drive, which is northwest of Tuckaseegee Road.

He drove a short distance before hitting a parked van in a driveway, which went into the home, police said.

‘Utter chaos’

Neighbors said the chaos started as a street fight between some girls and their mothers.

They say things then spiraled into a shooting.

After that, a Ring camera captured the moment a white Dodge Durango sped away and hit a speed bump.

“They crashed into somebody else’s vehicle, which crashed into somebody’s house,” said Byron Juane, a neighbor.

The Durango collided with a van, hit the corner of a house, and then crashed into the side of another home.

“I think it’s terrible because you just come out of your house or your friend’s house and you just see utter chaos,” Juane said.

An elderly woman inside one of the homes at the time suffered minor injuries.

“I would hate to be just chilling with my family and somebody just crashed into my house,” Juane said.

The man who was shot had life-threatening injuries.
