CMPD search for gunman after shooting in shopping center parking lot

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Police are searching for the person who they said shot a man in southwest Charlotte Friday morning.

First responders were called around 11:20 a.m. to the 9100 block of South Tryon Street, in front of the Food Lion near Interstate 485, and found the victim in the parking lot of the shopping center.

MEDIC said they transported the victim to Carolinas Medical Center with life-threatening injuries.

Police told Channel 9 reporter Mark Becker that an argument between two men led to the shooting and that the men knew each other.

Officers were searching the area for the shooter, and Channel 9 could see authorities roping off a section of the parking lot with crime scene tape.

A woman who didn't want to be identified told Eyewitness News she heard what sounded like firecrackers and then realized they were gunshots.

“I get out of my car and I saw the young man screaming, and I called 911....and the kid was screaming, loud, stating 'I got shot!',’ she said.

She said the shooter and two other men left in a car, but so far police have not said if they have found it.
