CORNELIUS — The Cornelius Police Department is investigating to find out who vandalized a confederate monument.
Police told Channel 9 that they covered up the statue with a tarp because of the offensive content painted on the BB Corn Confederate Monument.
A neighbor who lives near the vandalized statue said this is not the way to send a message.
"They're just wanting to try and riot and try to make people mad all the time, that's not the way to go – the way to go is peace," said Thomas Woodard.
Police are still investigating who owns the statue so that they can make decisions about the monument's cleanup.
