Police looking for man who impersonated officer in Hickory

HICKORY, N.C. — Police in Hickory are looking for a man who impersonated a police officer after he told a woman to pull over by showing her his handcuffs.

Police said the traffic stop happened along U.S. 70 at the Startown Plaza around lunchtime Friday.

Investigators said the woman told them a man pulled alongside her car and waved handcuffs at her and acted like he was on a police radio prior to telling her to stop.

When she pulled into the parking lot, he told her she had cut him off but left without getting out of his SUV.

He was described as a white man in his 30s with a scruffy beard and a chipped tooth, possibly driving an older model green or brown Jeep.

If you have any information, you are urged to call Hickory police.
