Police make arrest in Harrisburg pawn shop burglary

HARRISBURG, N.C. — The latest in several gun thefts was reported Thursday in Harrisburg.

Cabarrus County deputies said someone drove a car into the Kwick Kash Pawn and Jewelry on Highway 49.

Officers said the burglar, Darrell Marcus Brown, stole guns and then led police on a chase into the University of North Carolina-Charlotte area.

He was later charged in the crime.

"When I came, I just saw there was a whole bunch of trucks out here," said Nicholas Maynard, who works next door. "They were just all working to fix the front of the building and clean up the debris. I figured someone broke in because there would be no reason for their front wall to be knocked down so."

Earlier this year, there were several other gun thefts reported in the Charlotte area. One surveillance video showed thieves using a blow torch to try and break into a gun shop on South Boulevard.

The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms told Channel 9 about 50 firearms have been stolen from combined burglaries in the Carolinas.

Investigators said the thefts may be connected to the others.

The case is under investigation.
