Police: Man shot, killed following altercation in north Charlotte

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Homicide Detectives are investigating a homicide after they said someone was shot to death in north Charlotte.

Police said they responded to a call at 8:48 p.m. on English Setter Drive and found Zachary Pittman, 25, dead from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police arrested Brandon Newkirk in connection with the homicide.

Police said Pittman was shot following an altercation at the intersection of Terrier Way and Yellow Rose Lane.

Pittman fled the area after being shot, but later collapsed, police said.
