Police: Man solicited money for fake construction jobs

STATESVILLE, N.C. — Police are searching for a man after they said he promised construction work to people and solicited money for uniforms, but never provided a job, according to a news release.

Statesville Police Department is searching for James Anthony Craig, 30, of Statesville. He is wanted for four felony counts of obtaining property by false pretenses.

Police said Craig approached victims and promised a construction job. He would solicit money to pay for work uniforms.
Craig would then tell the victim to report for an orientation at various locations, according to police. However, once the victim arrived there would be no orientation, no uniforms and no job.

The Statesville Police Department has arrested Craig for this same type of scheme more than a dozen times since 2011.

If anyone has information as to the location of Craig, contact Statesville police at 704-878-3406, or Iredell Crime Stoppers at 704-662-1340.
