GASTON COUNTY, N.C. - Police said a Gaston County mother was found passed out behind the steering wheel of a car with two children in the back seat.
Jamie Revels is scheduled to make her first court appearance by video on Friday afternoon.
Her children, who are 4 and 5 years old, are now in the custody of another family member.
A witness told police he saw Revels Thursday night at the wheel of a car stopped in the middle of Myrtle Street in Gastonia. The engine was running and she was passed out, police said. Her two young children were asleep in their car seats, officers said.
Police said they woke her up and that she appeared to be impaired by a substance other than alcohol.
They charged her with illegal possession of prescription drugs and child abuse.
Neighbors and friends told Eyewitness News Revels is a good mother. One neighbor said she worries about what will happen to Revels' children after the incident.
