Police offer reward for information after swastika left on family's door

CHARLOTTE, N.C — Charlotte-Mecklenburg police are stepping up patrols and offering a cash reward after someone drew a hateful message, which included a swastika, on a Jewish family's door in the Steele Creek area.

The crime happened Thursday, on Rosh Hashana, the Jewish New Year.

Police are investigating to determine if it was a hate crime against Ronald Gale and his family.

CMPD is increasing patrols in the Steele Creek area, while also adding bicycle officers and foot patrols.

Officers have been instructed to check in on synagogues across the city.

Gale said whoever drew this swastika trespassed and crossed over their gated porch.

Gale said it wasn’t the first time he felt targeted.

"We're just disgusted,” Gale said. "It's mind-boggling that this can happen today."

CMPD is asking anyone with information on the case to contact Crimestoppers. There is a reward of up to $1,000 for anyone with information.
