Police identify two people involved in Hickory shooting

HICKORY, N.C. — One man died and another was transported to the hospital after a shooting outside a recreation center, according to police.

Hickory Police said 29-year-old Olutayo Babatunde died and 29-year-old Shawn Wilfong was seriously injured in the shooting.

Hickory Police Department responded to an altercation Saturday afternoon near a city park community center on Third Street Southwest and Eighth Avenue Drive Southwest, according to Capt. Gary Lee.

There were no witnesses to the shooting.

When police arrived on scene, the two men were on the ground.  Babatunde was pronounced dead at the scene. Officers say Wilfong was transported to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.

Police are looking for a possible getaway vehicle.

Officers say witnesses saw a 1990’s-model, purple Cadillac with a beige top leaving the scene.

No arrests have been made.
