GASTONIA, N.C. — A person has died and another is seriously hurt after two vehicles collided Friday afternoon in Gastonia, police said.
A truck traveling east and a car traveling west on Wren Turnpike collided at about 4:45 p.m, officers said.
Officers said the driver of the car, 24-year-old Ryan Patterson, and his passenger, 21-year-old Melanie Saesee, was taken to a local hospital where Saesee later died. Officials said Patterson was in critical condition.
The driver of the truck was not hurt in the crash.
Authorities have not said what caused the collision at this point.
