Police: Road not lit when pedestrian was struck, killed

CHARLOTTE — A pedestrian was struck and killed Saturday night in the University City area.

According to a release from the Charlotte Mecklenburg Police Department, the pedestrian was struck in the 10100 block of University City Boulevard. Upon arrival officers located a man in the median. Medic pronounced the pedestrian dead on the scene.

The victim has been identified as Lee Taylor Feaster, 50.

A woman was driving a 2004 Honda CRV when she struck the pedestrian as he crossed University City Boulevard.

A witness observed the pedestrian crossing the road prior to the crash and swerved to avoid striking the pedestrian. The pedestrian was not in a marked crosswalk at the time of the crash and the roadway was not illuminated with streetlights.

The CMPD Major Crash Investigation Unit responded to investigate. The release said speed and alcohol use on the part of the driver are not contributing circumstances in the crash.

The driver was not charged with any crime, but CMPD says the investigation is still ongoing.
