Police search for 2 men after homeowner run over by car

CHARLOTTE, N.C. — A man is recovering in the hospital after he was run over by a car.
 
Police said he was trying to stop two thieves at his home off Mount Holly-Huntersville Road in northwest Charlotte when they drove over him. Police said they are still searching for the thieves.
                               
Chopper 9 Skyzoom flew over the scene where police said the homeowner saw some men stealing from his property that sits behind a volunteer fire department.
               
Police believe they may have been targeting scrap metal.
               
They said the homeowner confronted the men, they jumped in a car and took off, running over the homeowner with their car.
               
Channel 9 saw him talking to Medic but hasn't been told the extent of his injuries.
               
He was taken to Carolinas Medical Center.
 
Police searched the property and nearby area for about an hour looking for the men and their car.
               
Police have not provided a description of the thieves or the car.
